There are many reasons why you might want to move your wireless, cellular security camera–it could be to better view a specific area of your property, to reposition the camera after changes in landscaping or construction, to address new security issues, to adjust for seasonal changes, or to improve visibility depending on lighting conditions.

Thanks to its wireless design and compact size, moving your Tactacam DEFEND Camera is easy and takes just a few minutes.

Security Cam Placement: How to Mount a Tactacam DEFEND Camera

  • Open the back of the camera, locate the power button, and hold it for approximately 1 second, then release. The blue light will turn on at the front of the camera.
  • Hold the power button again, also for approximately 1 second, then release. The green light will clash twice, then the camera will fully power on.
  • If your DEFEND Camera is powered by a solar panel, remove the power cable connection to the camera, then detach the panel from its mounting location
  • Remove the camera either by loosening its mounting strap or by loosening the wingnut that holds it to the mounting bracket
  • Remove the strap or mount from the wall or location the camera was attached
  • You are now ready to move the camera to its new location.
  • Once the camera is in its new location, install the mount and attach the camera to it.
  • Power on the camera, by pressing the power button for one second, and allow the network search function to take place. This could take up to 5 minutes–both the blue and red lights will appear on the front of the camera during set-up.
  • If you use a solar panel, attach it to its new home and connect the power cable to the camera
  • Fine-tune the camera angle to get the optimal location

Tips for Mounting a Tactacam DEFEND Camera

While we got the basics of moving and mounting your DEFEND Camera covered, here are some tips and tricks for optimizing the process:

  • When backing the wingnut out of the camera to detach it from the bracket, adjust the angle of the bracket to provide ample room to access the hardware. Then use your free hand to hold onto the camera, as you slowly turn the wingnut, making sure the camera doesn’t drop.
  • Consider turning off motion sensitivity in the app in order to cut down on alerts when you physically move the camera
  • Allowing the network search function to take place is important as even small changes to the physical location of the camera could result in a different carrier being a better choice–let your app do the hard work of getting you the best network for your specific location
