The Takeaway: DEFEND users can pick from several affordable data plans. Which one is best for you depends on how you plan to use your DEFEND cameras.
DEFEND 4G security cameras offer remote monitoring, motion-triggered images and videos, cloud storage, and more. Getting the most from your camera hinges in part on selecting the right data plan. With several to choose from, picking the right one may seem complicated. Here, we lay out the different plans so you can get the best one for your security needs.
DEFEND Data Plan Options
DEFEND offers three data plans, the Starter, Pro, and Premium. The three data plans can all be purchased by billing monthly or yearly–by paying yearly you can save up to 23%.
Starter Plan
-
Cost: $5/month or $55/year per camera
-
You get: 250 photos/month, 3 Live View sessions; 60-day cloud storage; optional Overage Protection ($5/month) for each extra 250 photos
-
Best for: Occasional surveillance or on a remote property with little traffic
-
Note: Optional Overage Protection ($5/month) provides insurance that if you have the Starter Plan but wind up with more than 250 images in a month, you don’t need to worry about going without security. Just $5 ensures nonstop coverage.
Pro Plan:
-

-
You get: Unlimited photos/month per camera; 5 Live View sessions; 60-day cloud storage

Understanding DEFEND Plus Add-On
Plus is an add-on to the DEFEND data plans.
-
Cost: $9/month per account
-
You get: Unlimited remote HD photo and video downloads; unlimited on-demand photos; 1-year cloud storage–per account, so when this is added to every active camera these benefits are all available
-
Best for: Users seeking more control, extended storage, better-quality media, and the ability to request download on-demand. Useful for active security monitoring or in situations when reviewing or sharing is important.
Other Important DEFEND Data Plan Details
-
Understanding photo pooling: If you have multiple cameras on the Starter Plan, their photo allowances accumulate. For example, if you have three cameras on the Starter Plan, then your total monthly photo allowance is 3 x 250, or 750 photos per month in total across all three cameras.
-
Overage Protection: If you are on the Starter Plan, this option gives you an additional block of 250 photos for an extra $5/month per block, if needed.
-
How plans work if you have multiple cameras: The plan you choose for your first registered DEFEND camera becomes the default plan for all subsequent registered cameras unless you choose both a monthly and yearly subscription and choose otherwise.
-
Changing plans on the go: You can change your plan at any time. However, please note that you won’t be refunded for unused time or data.
Which DEFEND Data Plan Is Best for You?
If you have a remote property with little motion: Save money and choose the Starter Plan, keeping in mind the ability to add Overage Protection if use increases
If you want coverage of a driveway, gate, or other high-motion area: Choose Pro for unlimited photo peace of mind so you won’t miss any action
If you want frequent Live View access and have cameras in busy locations: Choose Premium for maximum flexibility
If you need images saved for longer periods: Add Plus to one of the plans based on how much traffic you anticipate
If you have both busy and quiet seasons: Use Starter during the low-activity months and upgrade to Pro or Premium during the busy months
